The quest for desensitized garlic
I get around 50 hits a day from people doing Google searches for desensitized garlic. They get directed here because I listed it as one of my top 10 foods.
If you are one of those people, I dedicate this post to you.
Here's what I know: Only Delallo Foods sells it. I have only been able to find it at the commissary on the military base that my husband works on.
The Delallo Foods website does sell THIS, but I'm not positive it's desensitized. It may just be the same garlic that they sell in the olive bins at supermarkets that comes mixed with hot peppers. It's yummy and mild and crunchy, but not desensitized.
So, your best bet for getting the actual desensitized stuff is to find someone who has commissary privileges at a military base and get them to buy you a jar. Tell them it's in the deli/bakery section on the rack of gourmet Italian foods (Trust me. I've found it in the same spot in 3 different commissaries in 2 countries on 2 continents). It'll run you about $6 for a small jar.
If I could, I'd gladly buy it and ship it to you, charging only the actual cost. However, it's illegal to resell commissary goods.
So, here's what I can do for you. I will send a jar, free of charge, to the first 2 people who make a $15 (or more) donation to the Nie Recovery Fund. Click HERE for details (there are directions on how to donate under "How to help").
After you've made your donation, e-mail me your paypal receipt (mrsdouglass@hotmail.com) and I'll send you a jar of Delallo desensitized garlic (if you're one of the first 2 people to do so).
US, APO and FPO addresses only.
