We've come a long way, baby.

He wasn't my choice for president, he may not have been yours. But regardless of our political views, I think we should be proud of ourselves as a nation that we have beaten down racism to the point that we have elected a black man for president.

Alright, ladies. We need to be next.

  3. Regardless of your politics, you have to admit that watching the reaction in the streets was moving. I am so proud of my country, and I also thought McCain was extremely gracious and classy.

    I'm a happy girl today:)

  4. I am proud. I am extremely cynical when it comes to politics though. I guess I should be moved by all the people just in tears over the progress we've made as a country. I keep thinking these same people are going to backlash the minute the president (elect) doesn't pander to their individual needs though. At the end of the day, presidents don't change. They do their job and we'll all agree with some and disagree with some. However, as I told my dad, you have to win the election in order to disappoint. That's a big first step no matter how you look at it. Maybe it's because, to me, race doesn't come into play so it's not as big of a significance, but I talked to my grandma last weekend, and it is to that generation. My grandmother told a story where a friend didn't feel comfortable going to a party because she'd be the only black woman there. I don't, as my generation, understand why that would be a big deal. That's when the progress really sinks in.

  7. Palin 2012!!! I am going to get myself a bumper sticker.
I am happy to see the progress our country has made by electing a person of color. I hope that this will silence all those blacks that think the white man is always trying to keep them down (but I know better). I think racism was still a major part of this election as demonstrated by the extraordinary number of blacks who came out to vote for him just because he is "black". Maybe one day we will truly be able to transcend race....
